Introduction to ScreenU
The mission of the Higher Education Center for Alcohol and Drug Misuse Prevention and Recovery is to help college and community leaders develop, implement and evaluate programs and policies aimed at reducing drug and alcohol misuse, and improve collegiate recovery services. The Higher Education Center believes that Screening, Brief Intervention, and Referral to Treatment, (SBIRT), is a valuable tool that campuses can use with their students to identify risky behavior, provide brief interventions, or refer students for professional help.
Campuses often have limited resources to address alcohol and other drug misuse. To address this, the Higher Education Center has developed ScreenU. Rooted in research, ScreenU is a web-based program that digitizes SBIRT to allow for its use beyond clinical settings. It is currently available in three versions: ScreenU Alcohol, ScreenU Marijuana, and ScreenU Rx. These online tools can identify students making high-risk alcohol and drug choices and provide strategies to reduce their risk of negative consequences.
